Dancing When No One’s Watching

Dancing when no one’s watching means writing a poem no one will read. It means cooking a meal no one will eat. And all that means that dancing is eye candy, which is a great insight. But for the dancer who can dance while no one’s watching it means they enjoy it in a way non-dancers will never understand. Just like how a hermit in the mountains makes a sacrifice to the universe that no one will ever know about besides him, only he can understand it.

Have you ever danced alone? And my dancing a lone I don’t mean filming yourself on social media. I mean really dancing a lone for a good solid hour, and never telling anyone about it? I’ve done it more times than I can count, and I love it!

I also think that if you’re dancing alone for practice so that you’ll look less silly next time you dance in front of people, it’s not the same thing. A lot of people practice dancing alone but only because they intend to do these moves in front of people.

To truly dance when no one is watching means it’s more than just practice. It’s just you and the music and your moves. Even the universe can take back seat!

Try it.

Thank you, Red Deer Towing Company

Something tragic happened on the road in Red Deer, Alberta, the other day, but thanks to Red Deer Towing Company, our project was saved. Today, we want to tell that story of what happened and give a special shot out to our saviours.

Maybe the word “tragic” is a bit of an exaggeration. Some dancers and I were passing through Red Deer to reach a private venue where we were to perform dancing on stage. We were already running late when one of our tires popped. Being struggling performers during these pressed times, we were horrified because none on us had money for a decent 3 star meal let alone the cost of a roadside tire change. But one of us did have a phone with some minutes on it so we decided to try our luck.

After calling several different companies for towing Red Deer service, we finally called Red Deer Towing Company at (403) 907-1136 and after explaining our situation they towed our car to the venue for free! We were five minutes late to perform for the small, socially distanced audience on the outdoor patio but we told them our story and they understood.

We performed better than we had in a long time because, first of all, it was our first venue since the pandemic began and, second of all, we had just moments ago believed we had drove all this way for nothing and would not be able to perform. Thanks to this kind tow truck company, when no one else was willing to help us, they really saved our butts.

The venue was a grand time and we look forward to performing again in Red Deer at some point in the future.

Excited For Dance Parties This Year?

If you love to dance in big crowds with loud music and share drinks with your close friends then the year 2020 was probably a big bummer for you. It was for us too, which is why we’re temporarily only offering virtual dancing lessons to select clients over the Internet. But we have our chins up nonetheless and are very hopeful that night clubs and concert events will be back in full swing by the end of 2021.

Why do I think this? I don’t really have any good reasons actually, it’s just a gut feeling and I like to stay positive. So many people want to go back to dancing in clubs and ballrooms so bad that no one could possibly tell us that we can’t for too long. Eventually we’ll just do it no matter what anyone says because we’re here on this earth to enjoy life and we love to dance!

Dancing is a great way to meet new people because it’s a social interaction and right away you have something in common with people you meet–dancing!

I implore you to keep social distancing until it’s okay in your area but also to remain hopeful that dancing parties will soon be back in 2021.

Thank you.

Dancing For People as a Service (some thoughts)

When thinking of what I should write for my next post, my mind started to drift and I thought about dancing for people as a service. These are my thoughts on the topic.

  1. I believe even dancing naked for people to entertain them sexually is ethical, as it’s a service some people need to get through the day. Not everyone has the kind of mind to go to a strip club to see live pole dancing, but those kind of people are no less important than some super ethical guy who thinks strip clubs are nasty.
  2. There are professional dancers who are hired for things like music videos and live performances. I’ve always been jealous of these people because being a dance instructor pays around the same but isn’t as fun. I love being in front of a crowd, but my crowds are students, not roisterers at live events.
  3. Teaching dancing is necessary for professional dancers to make a career. People could always learn how to dance alone at home but in the bigger picture there would be a lot less professional dancers in the world if dance instructors didn’t exist. Just saying….
  4. My favorite part about going to Las Vegas is seeing the live dancers with that Las Vegas style. I love how the early 20th century with all it’s strange culture is kept alive in Las Vegas through the artform of show dancing.
  5. To become a professional dancer might be harder than 90% of all other jobs, even becoming a doctor because you need to be a certain type of person who loves doing that kind of crazy stuff like physically exerting yourself in front of others who get to see your sweat and muscle grooves.

These are just some random thoughts I had about dancing professionally to entertain people. I hope you learned something cool.

Is Dancing a Good Form of Exercise?

Today I want to answer the popular question “is dancing a good form of exercise?” As a dance instructor, I believe I have authority to answer this.

Not matter what you do, it’s always important to stretch before any kind of physical exertion. When it comes to dancing, to get the most amount of exercise the style of dancing needs to have more physical exertion. If you do slow dancing to classical music for instance, then you won’t get much exercise as walking. But if you are in a heavy metal mosh-pit then yes the amount of physical exertion will be great and in turn your exercise will be sufficient.

But there isn’t any kind of dancing that is good for body building. Though you may get cardio from dancing to country music at a rodeo, you will not get stronger from it. You will get more fit if you dance often.

If you want to use dancing as a form of exercise I recommend that you do it at least 3 times a week because dancing alone will not be enough for the average person to get the amount of exercise they need unless they do it often. And you should dance at a steady pace to increase your heart rate for at least 30 minutes each session.

Dancing here and there for 10 minutes at a time is no better than walking to the grocery store. Professional dancers are very fit because they do it almost every day for long periods of time.

I forgot to mention this in a previous post but another reason I dream of having my own backyard ballroom is so I can dance every morning and get the exercise I need. If you do it every morning, then it should be a good workout for the kind of fitness most people require.

I hope this information answered your question!

A Landscaping Winnipeg Dance Party

Just because you’re not a professional dancer doesn’t mean you can’t dance and make people say “Wow.” And just because you’re not a professional landscaper doesn’t mean you can’t work in the backyard to create a beautiful garden landscape. Everyone is different, but this event I’m about to share with you proves what I just said. So, welcome to another day on The Plaza!

In Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, I met up with some of the coolest people I’ve ever met for a dance party. But this wasn’t an ordinary dance party. It didn’t take place in a club or a ballroom. It took place in the most beautiful landscape I’ve ever danced in, a carefully articulated masterpiece of trimmed hedges, retaining walls, paved walkways, flowers, trees, and water features. And when the sun went down, slapping the moon to the sky, all the landscape lighting over the ponds and gardens was extraordinarily out of this world. This is all because the people hosting the party were landscaping Winnipeg pros, literally. And let me tell you, they knew how to dance!

I was blown away by how well landscapers can dance. It might just be a Winnipeg thing but, seriously, I was taken aback and surprised. Then, one of them, after ogling his own landscaping features, said to me, “Don’t be so surprised. I bet you can landscape just as well as we can dance.” As a professional dance instructor I automatically needed to test his theory. So, by the light of a swinging lantern, I set out to work turning a weedy patch of grass by the fence into a garden. They supplied all the tools, and I supplied all the creativity. Hours later, with an audience at my back, I rose, sighing with relief. What was the result?

The result was that, yes, we all have creativity within us, and if you think you can’t do something there’s a good chance you haven’t tried it yet. Back home, I usually hire landscaping companies but now I think I’ll just do it myself.

I had so much fun at this party that I think it should be a regular event in Winnipeg. Indeed, why aren’t landscaping dance parties a thing? If you held this event in a part of Winnipeg that needed an extra touch of beauty, this would be the best way to do it, in my opinion. All you need to do is supply good music and landscaping tools, maybe some drinks, and people will landscape in public parks for free, saving the city money and supplying heavenly entertainment.

What do you think? Either way, I bet I’ll be having another one for those parties with those same awesome people, ad if the world doesn’t decide to catch on then we’ll have all the fun for ourselves.

I’m glad you stopped by. See you next time!
