If you love to dance in big crowds with loud music and share drinks with your close friends then the year 2020 was probably a big bummer for you. It was for us too, which is why we’re temporarily only offering virtual dancing lessons to select clients over the Internet. But we have our chins up nonetheless and are very hopeful that night clubs and concert events will be back in full swing by the end of 2021.
Why do I think this? I don’t really have any good reasons actually, it’s just a gut feeling and I like to stay positive. So many people want to go back to dancing in clubs and ballrooms so bad that no one could possibly tell us that we can’t for too long. Eventually we’ll just do it no matter what anyone says because we’re here on this earth to enjoy life and we love to dance!
Dancing is a great way to meet new people because it’s a social interaction and right away you have something in common with people you meet–dancing!
I implore you to keep social distancing until it’s okay in your area but also to remain hopeful that dancing parties will soon be back in 2021.
Putting one foot in front of the other is a method in many dancing styles, but it’s also a life lesson. When I dance, I put my feet back and forth, and when you do it wrong you fall over. To dance correctly, you must not stumble. To move through life with less risk of mistakes, you must walk forward correctly. You do this by putting one foot in front of the other.
My dreams push me forward, by using my feet to step. Each footstep is another day with work done towards my goal. Running for fitness is done without thinking. How often do you stumble when you run? Rarely!
That’s why to make your goals and dreams come true all you need to do is focus on each step. There’s less chance to stumble if you just following the dancing steps, step by step, with one foot in front of the other.
This is my message today and I hope you found it inspiring.
Stone masons are typically burly men with lots of muscle. You wouldn’t expect them to go ball room dancing. But in Calgary, Alberta, Canada there’s a crew of stone masons and bricklayers who threw a ball room dance party to celebrate a birthday in the company. Before we tell this amazing story, find the company information below.
Ball Room Dancing with Stone Masons and Bricklayers in Calgary AB
We were right to think that it was unusual for bricklayers and stone masons to go ball room dancing. And that’s how we got into contact with them. They reached out to us to ask for virtual dancing lessons over Skype and we agreed. They wanted to surprise their friend with a ball room birthday party and over the course of two weeks we trained these stone masons how to dance in the ball room fashion.
We were also able to attend the birthday party virtually by having an open laptop on the DJ’s table. We watched the whole party and danced with them as we suggested songs to the DJ. It was a blast and we learned a lot about the nature of burly men. Just because a man like a stone mason is covered in dust and muscle doesn’t mean he can’t dance. We also learned this in Winnipeg with landscapers but these stone masons were much more surprising to see dancing because they had never danced like this before.
Seeing the person who was celebrating his birthday react to the surprise ball room party was the best part of the night. The look on his face when he saw all his coworkers dancing was hilarious–a look we’ll never forget.
All in all, it was very impressive to see how a company of masonry Calgary professionals could celebrate a coworker’s birthday in such extravagance. We hope we get more clients like them in the future, especially when we’re open physically and no longer need to do all our dance lessons virtually. A few days after the party, we had a friend in Calgary who was looking for stone masonry services and we recommended our new friends for the job and in turn we gained another referral from our new friends. It was a win-win, and the service our friend in Calgary received was very well done.
We’re glad you enjoyed this odd yet inspiring story. Just remember that next time you see a burly tough guy that he might really be a sweet and kind person inside who throws a dance party for his friend.
When thinking of what I should write for my next post, my mind started to drift and I thought about dancing for people as a service. These are my thoughts on the topic.
I believe even dancing naked for people to entertain them sexually is ethical, as it’s a service some people need to get through the day. Not everyone has the kind of mind to go to a strip club to see live pole dancing, but those kind of people are no less important than some super ethical guy who thinks strip clubs are nasty.
There are professional dancers who are hired for things like music videos and live performances. I’ve always been jealous of these people because being a dance instructor pays around the same but isn’t as fun. I love being in front of a crowd, but my crowds are students, not roisterers at live events.
Teaching dancing is necessary for professional dancers to make a career. People could always learn how to dance alone at home but in the bigger picture there would be a lot less professional dancers in the world if dance instructors didn’t exist. Just saying….
My favorite part about going to Las Vegas is seeing the live dancers with that Las Vegas style. I love how the early 20th century with all it’s strange culture is kept alive in Las Vegas through the artform of show dancing.
To become a professional dancer might be harder than 90% of all other jobs, even becoming a doctor because you need to be a certain type of person who loves doing that kind of crazy stuff like physically exerting yourself in front of others who get to see your sweat and muscle grooves.
These are just some random thoughts I had about dancing professionally to entertain people. I hope you learned something cool.
Today I want to answer the popular question “is dancing a good form of exercise?” As a dance instructor, I believe I have authority to answer this.
Not matter what you do, it’s always important to stretch before any kind of physical exertion. When it comes to dancing, to get the most amount of exercise the style of dancing needs to have more physical exertion. If you do slow dancing to classical music for instance, then you won’t get much exercise as walking. But if you are in a heavy metal mosh-pit then yes the amount of physical exertion will be great and in turn your exercise will be sufficient.
But there isn’t any kind of dancing that is good for body building. Though you may get cardio from dancing to country music at a rodeo, you will not get stronger from it. You will get more fit if you dance often.
If you want to use dancing as a form of exercise I recommend that you do it at least 3 times a week because dancing alone will not be enough for the average person to get the amount of exercise they need unless they do it often. And you should dance at a steady pace to increase your heart rate for at least 30 minutes each session.
Dancing here and there for 10 minutes at a time is no better than walking to the grocery store. Professional dancers are very fit because they do it almost every day for long periods of time.
I forgot to mention this in a previous post but another reason I dream of having my own backyard ballroom is so I can dance every morning and get the exercise I need. If you do it every morning, then it should be a good workout for the kind of fitness most people require.
Just because you’re not a professional dancer doesn’t mean you can’t dance and make people say “Wow.” And just because you’re not a professional landscaper doesn’t mean you can’t work in the backyard to create a beautiful garden landscape. Everyone is different, but this event I’m about to share with you proves what I just said. So, welcome to another day on The Plaza!
In Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, I met up with some of the coolest people I’ve ever met for a dance party. But this wasn’t an ordinary dance party. It didn’t take place in a club or a ballroom. It took place in the most beautiful landscape I’ve ever danced in, a carefully articulated masterpiece of trimmed hedges, retaining walls, paved walkways, flowers, trees, and water features. And when the sun went down, slapping the moon to the sky, all the landscape lighting over the ponds and gardens was extraordinarily out of this world. This is all because the people hosting the party were landscaping Winnipeg pros, literally. And let me tell you, they knew how to dance!
I was blown away by how well landscapers can dance. It might just be a Winnipeg thing but, seriously, I was taken aback and surprised. Then, one of them, after ogling his own landscaping features, said to me, “Don’t be so surprised. I bet you can landscape just as well as we can dance.” As a professional dance instructor I automatically needed to test his theory. So, by the light of a swinging lantern, I set out to work turning a weedy patch of grass by the fence into a garden. They supplied all the tools, and I supplied all the creativity. Hours later, with an audience at my back, I rose, sighing with relief. What was the result?
The result was that, yes, we all have creativity within us, and if you think you can’t do something there’s a good chance you haven’t tried it yet. Back home, I usually hire landscaping companies but now I think I’ll just do it myself.
I had so much fun at this party that I think it should be a regular event in Winnipeg. Indeed, why aren’t landscaping dance parties a thing? If you held this event in a part of Winnipeg that needed an extra touch of beauty, this would be the best way to do it, in my opinion. All you need to do is supply good music and landscaping tools, maybe some drinks, and people will landscape in public parks for free, saving the city money and supplying heavenly entertainment.
What do you think? Either way, I bet I’ll be having another one for those parties with those same awesome people, ad if the world doesn’t decide to catch on then we’ll have all the fun for ourselves.
I’ve only started telling my friends about this dream of mine. For my whole life I just when to the Plaza to dance, but I always wanted my own personal ballroom. Now I will share this dream with the whole public, so try not to laugh at me please.
Firstly to understand this dream of mine you need to know my foundational dream of having a mansion. It’s quite simply every man’s dream. Quite simple indeed. I want a mansion!
But I won’t be doing any ballroom dancing in my mansion. O no! I want a separate ballroom out in the backyard. That’s why my butler will also know how to DJ. And garden! Yup…. because to get to the ballroom from my pool you’ll have to walk through me splendid garden first.
I’m just getting started….
Call me unrealistic but my friend’s son will be teaching my how to invest in crypto-currency next weekend. That’s right. I’m getting rich.
So, if you want to do some dancing in my personal ballroom then don’t laugh at me! Or else you won’t be invited. LOL!!!!
What we love about ballroom dancing here at the Plaza is that no matter what kind of music someone puts on, we just love to dance. Let your eleven-year-old son put his favorite song and sure enough all of us adults will find a way to dance to it. We love ballroom dancing because it’s old fashioned enough to be cool but cool enough to seem new. Why else do we love it? Because it’s just awesome.
If you want lessons in the area on how to ballroom dance, you can watch YouTube videos or contact our dancing instructors for a virtual lesson. Just remember, you can’t ballroom dance without a partner!
